CultuRadio Mezclas Duras ( Entrevista a Paco Rentería)
Paco Rentería es un virtuoso guitarrista tapatío que ha logrado consolidar todo un espectáculo inteligente cuyas influencias musicales son ilimitadas, con la única etiqueta autonombrada comofreeplay es capaz de demostrar sus capacidades artísticas en compañía de su grupo en un viaje lleno de sonoridades, clásica, jazz, rock, flamenco, etc.
El autor original (tan solo de la composición más no de la letra) del tema del Mariachi incluida en la banda sonora de la película “Desperado” y en aquél momento interpretada por Antonio Banderas, fue la punta de lanza para un éxito que va mucho más allá de esa propuesta.Él es nuestro invitado especial en el Concierto celebrativo de los nueve años de Radio Universidad de Guadalajara en Autlán; personalmente tuve la oportunidad de conocerle en la presentación que hizo en el cierre de actividades culturales dentro del marco del Carnaval 2010 y me consta, que es además de un excelente ejecutante y expositor del arte musical en todas sus connotaciones, un ser humano humilde que transmite un mensaje claro, transparente y honesto con el compromiso de su vocación.
Designado como Embajador Cultural de México está a escasos meses de asistir al Festival Fiesta de la Música en Paris, Francia y pisar el Teatro Opera House de Hanoi en Vietnam.

Paco de nueva cuenta, nos vemos, ahora con un look diferente a hace 3 años que por cierto te sienta muy bien, increíble que pueda estar de nuevo aquí después de un año 2009 lleno de emociones e iniciando 2010 con más emociones y muchas más expectativas, que me puedes decir.
Que Dios me quiere mucho, y diario le doy gracias por tantas bendiciones, sigo soñando, no he despertado, ni quiero despertar…
Bueno Paco, lo primero decirte que has puesto de pie este año a cientos de miles, al LUNARIO del Auditorio Nacional, al Teatro Degollado, al Teatro Ocampo, etc.…
Esto es porque el público es muy amable. La gente se levanta y te aplaude porque quiere regalarte algo suyo.
¿Y cuando viene el público a verte en directo, qué esperan de ti?
Darlo todo como si fuera el último concierto de mi vida dejando la última gota de sudor y pasión en el escenario. Agradezco a la vida la oportunidad de poder expresarme, busco romper siempre las distancias y la gente lo entiende así y eso crea una comunión y empieza el viaje.
Imagino que tocar la guitarra como lo haces tú requiere muchas horas de práctica, de sacrificio, de búsqueda constante de una melodía, de un sonido, etc. Y por otro lado están los viajes. ¿Piensas que está perdiendo algo de tu vida personal por la guitarra?
Supongo. Bueno la verdad es que yo no, pero sí los que me rodean, es irremediable. Yo lo siento muchísimo, pero cuando estoy en esto tengo que estar en esto y lo paso mal porque muchas veces siento que estoy en deuda con mi familia, la gente que me quiere, pero mi vida la dedico a esto desde que soy chiquitito y nunca lo he considerado un sacrificio, esto más que una profesión es una forma de vida.
Mucha gente piensa que no es duro este trabajo.
Esto tiene una parte de trabajo muy duro y estaría mintiéndote si te dijera otra cosa. La vida de un guitarrista es como la vida de un deportista, siempre te tienes que mantenerte en forma con la guitarra, dentro de tus posibilidades. Los viajes, las giras, los aviones, las desveladas, agotan físicamente pero cuando amas lo que haces no es duro es cansado, pero el cansancio se quita con unas buenas horas de cama. Aún así el tamaño del éxito, es del mismo tamaño que el del sacrificio.
¿Qué te empuja a coger la guitarra y componer?
Mi naturaleza, la necesidad de expresar.
¿Entonces no compones de manera premeditada?.
La composición es caprichosa, unas veces sale más espontánea que otra, pero luego hay que poner toda tu inteligencia para ordenar las ideas, las notas, con arreglo a lo que tú entiendes por belleza y por buena música.
¿Sabes cuando viene una obra a tu mente?
Quizá haya indicios, ideas, algunas reacciones particulares o cierta necesidad de estar a solas, pero la realidad es la música no puede ser forzada por que perdería lo más importante el alma, por eso creo que la música no viene cuando uno quiere, sino cuando ella lo desea.
¿Qué es la Música?
La música es un oficio ardiente en el cual uno trabaja mientras espera que se produzca el milagro de la reunión y convergencia amable de la vivencia, la imaginación y el sonido. Chesterton decía que lo verdaderamente milagroso de los milagros es que a veces se producen.
¿Entonces la música es vivencia e imaginación?
No es tan literal, la relación entre imaginación y memoria es tan intensa que crea otra memoria, en que el sueño de la realidad se rehace como sueño de la música. La realidad es quién la despierta. La vivencia es hija de la experiencia. La vivencia tiene muchos rostros y la imaginación los interroga. Al final de cuantas el resultado es la locura entre la lucha de tus propios ángeles y demonios.
¿Y quién va ganando?

¿Paco la Música llega antes o después del sueño?
Creo que llega antes, durante y después del sueño.
¿Es difícil para un músico encontrar respuestas en la música?
Después del momento espiritual, mágico y místico de la creación de una melodía… lo único evidente para mí es que escribir música obedece a una insistencia en interrogar la realidad e interrogarse a la vez uno mismo, y ahí la ignorancia es un territorio muy vasto.
Picasso paseaba por el bosque antes de pintar, mientras que Colette solía acariciar a su gato, ¿tienes tu algún ritual antes de componer?
No hago nada particular, salvo ponerme cómodo en mi cama o en mi estudio, procuro que ningún ruido exterior contamine mi momento, a media luz, con un cigarro y descalzo, fluyo mejor en silencio y en soledad absoluta. Y si en pleno momento creativo me interrumpen me pongo de mal humor, esos son los signos... Pero lo que me arrastra a la Guitarra a componer es la necesidad de decir algo que ni yo mismo sé qué es y que estoy por descubrir. Quizá algún día la música no quiere volver a visitarme – espero no suceda- porque ella siempre anda por ahí, “durmiendo con medio mundo".
¿Qué criterio lleva a Paco Rentería a elegir los músicos que le van a arropar en las grabaciones y en los conciertos?
El mismo que el de todos los músicos. Tú tratas de llevar gente buena, que cumpla la función que necesitas. Y bueno, para girar tratas de llevar gente que no sea problemática, es triste tener que hablar de esto, pero hay veces que cuentas con gente que luego son problemáticos y tienes que prescindir de ellos o ellos de ti.
En definitiva, se trata de que haya buen ambiente y que los músicos sean de garantía.
Llevo mucho tiempo con esta banda, somos muy amigos.
De tus discos, ¿tienes especial cariño por alguno de ellos?
Por todos, son como mis hijos. En todos he puesto mi ilusión y he intentado reflejar el dolor o la alegría que uno siente en la vida en cada una de esas etapas. Mis experiencias, mis apegos y desapegos son los que se traducen luego en mi música. Claro que hoy me emociona el que tengo aquí bajo el brazo. Lo que si se es que hoy estoy más emocionado que nunca con este CD.
¿Qué les dirías a los que dicen que eres el mejor guitarrista de México o hasta del mundo?
¡Hay Dios ¡ -Que se equivocan-, hay mucha gente que toca muy bien la guitarra. Le tengo mucho respeto al arte y no me gusta ese comentario, me parece un poco frívolo. Si yo me dejara llevar por esas cosas, muy mal camino llevaría. Lo que hago es no hacerle caso a los buenos ni a los malos comentarios. Tan solo soy un músico que siente y expresa con todo lo que soy para tratar de hacer sentir, mi empeño es darle a la gente lo mejor que llevo dentro de mí.
¿Crees que la música es un lenguaje universal y que en las manos adecuadas están condenados a entenderse todos los estilos?
Por supuesto, yo hago lo que llame freeplay, es el mejor ejemplo, después de vivir con el clásico y el flamenco durante muchos años, dentro de la música hay muchos lenguajes que deben ser tratados con el mismo respeto. Pero pienso que como lenguaje de la música, el flamenco es muy rico, igual que el Jazz, qué decir del rock y la música clásica, vamos la música es fenomenal en cualquiera de sus géneros.
Se te ha catalogado musicalmente de pronto como nuevo flamenco, World music, etc.…Que piensas?
Mira, en realidad el tema de los juicios y las etiquetas es algo a lo que no le encuentro mucha validez. Pareciera ser una voluntad de clasificación para comodidad de los críticos, la mercadotecnia o las casas disqueras al vender en sus anaqueles.
¿Es difícil vivir de la música?
Yo no sé si vivir de la música es difícil, supongo que igual de difícil que vivir de otra profesión. Depende de las exigencias que uno tenga para vivir. Me queda claro que si necesitas mucho, pues tienes que estar cotizado y trabajar mucho.
¿Te imaginas una vida sin la guitarra?, ¿A qué se hubieras dedicado?
Mi vida sin guitarra es igual que tener un accidente y quedar sin una extremidad de mi cuerpo.
El tema de la piratería, muchos músicos, especialmente de Jazz, consideran que los discos tienen que servir para promocionar sus conciertos. ¿Tienes opinión o te mantienes al margen?
Al margen no puedo vivir porque estoy en ello. Pero tengo la sensación de que se le echa la culpa a los cuatro que venden discos piratas en la calle y eso no supone nada al lado de lo que se mueve en Internet. Todo esto se me va de las manos, pero creo que es muy malo para el bolsillo de algunos y no tan malo para el de otros. Lo que si me queda claro es que todo el mundo tiene derecho a la música y si no tienes dinero, ¿qué pasa?, pues te lo digo, la neta del planeta, que se la graben.
¿Qué proyectos tienes para el futuro?
Cientos, en verdad te lo digo, hoy más que nunca me gustaría que los días duraran más. Música para cine, DVD, conciertos, nuevos materiales, etc.…
¿Qué es lo que te mueve por dentro hoy en día?
Son tres experiencias, que curiosamente se asemejan y se entienden entre sí, que son la música, la mística y el amor, porque que en estas tres encuentro el éxtasis, es decir, que puedo salir de mí mismo.

En uno de los Hoteles más lujosos de San José de el Cabo, Baja California Sur, donde solo los artistas de Hollywood pueden pagar una noche 5000 dólares, vemos a Paco Rentería, con el mismo aplomo que en otras ocasiones, no parece impresionado por la suntuosidad que nos rodea.El músico posee esa serenidad que distingue a quienes se sienten plenamente satisfechos consigo mismos, después de una gira exitosa en el 2005 y con la calma de tener por fin tiempo para disfrutar de unas merecidas vacaciones , un par meses repartidos entre los Cabos y Puerto Vallarta son estas vacaciones , donde en el marco de esta tranquilidad nos ha dado la oportunidad de entrevistarlo para que nos de a conocer algo mas de su nueva producción titulada Gitanus, además de abordar otros temas de interés.
El vivir en este siglo te hace imposible deslindarte de todas las raíces que transitan en el globo terráqueo. EL flamenco gitano es lo que predomina, la fusión musical es uno de los cometidos recientes de este músico, Paco Rentería quién precisamente se mueve en estos territorios del mestizaje.
Paco Rentería y su agrupación con quién tiene 6 años trabajando arduamente, hay quienes dicen que se especializa en la mezcla de distintas corrientes, hay quienes dicen que le da una renovación al flamenco, otros dicen que brinda una perspectiva fresca a la música llamándola World Beat, la única verdad es que sea cual sea, la música de Rentería provoca cicatrices en el alma y causa estragos en nuestras emociones. La buena relación de los y instrumentistas con Paco interesados también en este combo sonoro de intercambio cultural así como la gente de producción crean un ambiente artístico y personal de calidad , de entrega, de alegría, de profesionalismo que se transmite dentro y fuera del escenario .
¿Como ves este 2006 que esta apenas iniciando?
Hermoso, excelente y con nuevas motivaciones para seguir creando
2 meses de vacaciones
Bueno después de trabajar prácticamente 5 años sin parar ya me merecía unas vacaciones, sin embargo esto me ayuda a evaluar lo malo y lo bueno del 2005 y años anteriores y proyectar con calma y tranquilidad todos los proyectos de este 2006.
¿Cuando inicias conciertos en este 2006?
Creo a mediados de marzo
¿Que extrañabas de tener estos más de dos meses sabáticos?
La tranquilidad , la calma de poder leer , de convivir con mi familia , de ir con toda tranquilidad de compras , de componer 24 horas al día , de no pensar en hoteles , habitaciones , vuelos de aviones , en pocas palabras no tener que estar sujeto a horarios , compromisos y obligaciones , aunque te diré que nunca dejo de desentenderme de mi oficina y mi empresa aun en mi casa o en estos hermosos lugares estoy teniendo algunas juntas , y platicas con toda la gente de mi producción , manager para como te decía proyectar este 2006 .
¿Hay cambios en este 2006?
Muchos cambios de entrada con la producción, nuevos músicos, nueva música, y vamos ha realizar menos conciertos que en años anteriores, en pocas palabras solo haremos los conciertos en donde podamos presentar al máximo nuestra producción.
¿Serás más selectivo?
Mas bien mucho mas estricto con la producción, que no haya variantes de un concierto a otro con sonido, iluminación entorno y prestigio
¿Decías cambios en la banda?
Principalmente mucho más exigente conmigo y con ellos
¿No lo eras?
Mucho, pero este año mucho más
¿Habrá cambios en el grupo base?
Yo espero que no, ya que hemos venido trabajando con un muy buen ambiente y nos entendemos bien, sin embargo creo que también hay ciclos, así que no se que pueda pasar por lo pronto todo esta “muy bien “.
¿Crees que tus músicos te envidien?
Definitivamente no lo creo, sin embargo uno nunca termina de conocer a las personas, si alguien sabría contestar esa pregunta serían sus amigos, conocidos o familiares de ellos por que es donde a lo mejor se expresan con mas confianza.
¿Que tipo de músico te consideras?
Más que músico me considero un curioso, un entrometido de la música
¿Como es eso?
Siempre trato de indagar lo mas que se pueda, por que al momento de la creación todo me sirve de influencia, toda la música que oigo, los lugares, las personas que conozco en todos los lugares a donde vamos parte de todo eso es lo que se plasma en mis composiciones, platico con mi alma, reflexiono, exploro, agonizo con todo lo que percibo y siento.
Paco Rentería tiene un encanto para la gente, creo que esta ahí en los enlaces musicales, en las conversaciones internas, en la reflexión musical de tus temas.

¿Algo así como libertad musical?
Solo es mi música y mi sentir
Paco, de donde vienen esas reflexiones, esa manera de percibir la vida y tu arte
Me educaron para entender que explorar, observar y percibir es algo crucial para poder llevar una vida artística e intelectual completa. Mi padre y mi madre fueron mis mentores, no tanto por lo que me dijeron, sino por la manera en que vivieron sus vidas y como afrontaron el mundo. Mi madre pintora y mi padre abogado representaban el lado izquierdo y el lado derecho del cerebro: lo académico y lo artístico. Eso creo que es el inicio , sin embargo creo que toda la información que he recibido durante mi vida de todas las fuentes , viajes , experiencias , estudios , ejercieron profunda influencia y a creado al menos en mí , a una persona reflexiva y que busca siempre un momento de soledad para analizar los sentimientos que me conmueven e iluminan mi creatividad , teniendo cada uno de estos , su propia manera de pernear en los entornos e ideales de mi alma y de mi música.
Cuales son los temas que ahora te interesan como artista
Todos en donde se involucre principalmente las emociones del ser humano
Me has comentado que el ser músico es una carrera que no tiene fin
Así es , cuando crees que has dado un gran paso te das cuenta que hay mas caminos , cuando abres una puerta te encuentras con otras 5 más , cuando has terminado una obra quedas satisfecho solo unos momentos , pero en tiempo corto quieres más y empiezas a buscarle todo lo que le hubieras hecho o modificado , en otras ocasiones hay un desfase entre lo que uno quiere hacer , lo que uno sueña hacer y lo que uno puede hacer , encuentras limitantes para superar , caminos fáciles , obscuros , brillo en tu inspiración o tinieblas en tu continuación de la misma , hay magia , misterio , existen caminos que alejan y acercan las líneas entre la realidad y el sueño , creo que siempre tienes algo nuevo que aprender . El arte es una exploración en la noche. Es una cosa que uno nunca esta seguro de nada, casualmente ese es el estimulo que lo hace a uno volver a intentarlo. Y es por eso que después de una grabación de algún disco una ves que sale a la venta, no lo vuelvo a escuchar para no atormentarme por que todo me critico, por que siempre tengo sed de más y más.
Entonces no existe la Obra de Arte perfecta
Seguramente la hay entre los Clásicos y en el Renacimiento. Cundo el mundo de el artista era sólido. El mundo que nos ha tocado vivir es un mundo, desconcertado, angustioso, que se esta comiendo así mismo y donde a ratos no se sabe muy bien en que terreno se pisa. Entonces nuestro arte en muchas ocasiones, cuando dejamos de ser idealistas no hace otra cosa que reflejar esa insatisfacción y esa desesperación, afortunadamente en mi caso sigo creyendo en un mundo tan bello como es en el que me toco vivir.

Cual es tu mayor pasión

Cual ha sido tu presentación más difícil
El termino dificultad es amplio, pero casi siempre han sido factores técnicos o metereologicos, por que en cuanto a publico Dios me ha bendecido con su cariño.
Comentabas que buscas momentos de soledad por que
Para escuchar la voz de el silencio, que nos pone en contacto con nosotros mismos, y nos ayuda a reconocer en nuestro interior lo mejor.
Entonces comunicarse también en silencio es importante
Las puras palabras no dicen todo, es el lenguaje no verbal el que les da su significado preciso, el tono, el volumen, el ritmo y otros mucho matices. También el silencio comunica y transmite muchas emociones , sentimientos y sensaciones que las palabras jamás lo harían sentir o nos dejarían sentir , cuantas veces los que hemos amado no encontramos las palabras para decir lo que sentimos a nuestro ser querido , Así entonces , la intimidad ,el lenguaje corporal , los sentimientos mas fuertes , con las sensaciones mas sublimes encuentran en el silencio su mejor cause y camino para hacerlas sentir hasta el tuétano , en donde podemos dibujar el cuerpo de el ser amado con el lápiz silencioso de nuestra lengua y la tinta de nuestra saliva , y donde nuestra alma se convierte en la sabana que abraza , goza y ama .
Crees que los seres humanos le tenemos miedo al silencio
Así es , por lo menos una gran mayoría , creo que el recogimiento consiste en entrar en nuestro mundo interior y ahí reconocernos como humanos , con todos nuestros defectos y todas nuestras cualidades , es como una mina que para encontrar el oro hay que picar piedra y pasar por la escoria . Es por eso que tenemos miedo, pavor a estar con nosotros, a sentarnos un momento sin hacer nada, por que estamos convencidos que lo que nos construye como personas es lo que hacemos y no es así, lo que nos conforma como seres humanos esta dentro, en lo mas intimo de la propia intimidad, y ahí hay que ir a buscarlo haciendo una alto a la vida desenfrenada, activista y en ocasiones hasta robótica.
Tú ya lo hiciste
Diario, por eso puedo hablar con esa seguridad, todos los momentos de silencio y soledad son mis cómplices y compañeros para componer, por que saco todas mis vivencias, demonios, fantasmas y Ángeles de la temporada.
Es difícil la música, es difícil componer (Paco Sonríe)
La música elemental no es simplemente música , es prerracional, no tiene formas , ni secuencias , la música elemental es mundana , natural , física , cualquiera puede aprenderla y experimentarla , es un juego de niños , tu puedes tocar un puerta varias veces , o una cazuela , y eso ya es música . Creo que el Arte de hacer música es difícil, así como el arte de hacer cualquier tipo de arte es muy difícil, pero sobre todo de mucha entrega y tenacidad. Pero no solamente talento y vocación sino de un trabajo disciplinado en que nuestras creaciones aprendan a obedecer lo que nuestro interior, subconsciente incluido, trata de plasmar. Lleva mucho tiempo ser músico pero lleva mas tiempo ser Artista.
Ahora que lo dices , vaya a mi me queda claro que te he seguido por mas de 10 años tu evolución , y ver como el público se te entrega , pero siguen existiendo personas o retractores que no se cansan de criticarte , te afecta esto .
Ya lo había contestado antes , el problema es de ellos no mío , mi filosofía de vida es que si no vas a tener amigos tampoco tengas enemigos , no te voy a negar que hace ya unos años si me dolía , pero mas que nada por ser personas que fueron cercanas a mí y que al estar frente a ellos me daban una cara y después te enterraban la daga por la espalda , sin embargo mis verdaderos amigos , el publico y yo mismo claro esta , hizo que viera que es una realidad que enfrentamos todos lo que estamos en un aparador que genera tantas emociones , en la mayoría de las personas una excelente vibra , donde la energía fluye de ida y vuelta , pero lamentablemente en otras pocas no es lo mismo ; yo les deseo a esas personas que si no les gusta mi música , que no la escuchen , que si no les agrado como persona , que se alejen de mí y que no vayan a los conciertos que realizo y que si en algún momento de mi vida he ofendido a alguien con algún comentario , etc... Pues les pido perdón. Y si hay algo que cualquiera de estas personas me lo quiera decir personalmente con gusto lo recibimos. Hay amigos que me han comentado que detrás de todas esas personas que hablan y critican , hay miedos , agonías , fantasmas , demonios , inseguridades , es mas , que ellos ya perdieron en la vida o nacieron perdedores , no lo se , yo solo les mando y les deseo todas las bendiciones .
Miles y miles de personas te quieren y les encantas, por que crees que en otras pocas no sea lo mismo
No dicen que del odio al amor hay solo un paso. Mira no me detengo ni siquiera a ver que bueno dicen de mí, eso lo hace mi oficina, lo malo menos, ya que solo hace que desgastes y pierdas energía, en esta carrera solo hay que trabajar, es cierto que a más de alguno le sigue haciendo ruido que me consideren guitarrista de flamenco, cuando yo he dicho en innumerables ocasiones, que no lo soy. Como te dije antes es mi sentir, es mi alma lo que doy, no le pongan títulos, y los que lo hacen, lo hacen sin ninguna mala intención, y los que no están de acuerdo que no se claven y que escuchen a quien ellos quieran.
Cual es la fórmula para que les gustes a tantos públicos tan diversos
Mas allá del impulso de crear o interpretar hay un nivel aún mas profundo de compromiso, un estado de unión con un todo que está mas allá de nosotros. Cuando este elemento de unión penetra nuestras formas de juego, obtenemos algo que esta más allá de la mera creatividad, más allá del propósito o la dedicación: llegamos al estado de actuar por amor. El amor tiene que ver con la perpetuación de la vida, y por lo tanto está irrevocablemente ligado a valores muy profundos. Nunca ha dejado de maravillarme, el poder de la escritura, la música, la pintura o la danza para sacarme de la tristeza, desilusión, la depresión, etc... No hablo de entretenimiento o distracción, sino de tocar, bailar, dibujar, escribir, para atravesar el mal momento y salir de el. Así veo mi música como una alternativa de sentimientos y emociones para que el público viaje , remueva , arregle , cambie o por lo menos olvide en esos instantes , que tenga un poder curativo en el alma ; así que hay que empezar a ser honesto contigo , creer en lo que haces , tenerles mucho respeto , quererlos a todos , entender que cada público es diferente , mantener vivo el amor y agradecer a Dios siempre por cada éxito cuando acabo los conciertos.
Ahora que hablas de esto, casi no hay excepciones a la regla de que una persona debe pagar muy caro por el don divino del fuego creativo
Espero ser la excepción de la regla, pero algo hay de eso e igual tienes mucha razón, decía Carl Jung que la vida de un artista necesariamente debe estar llena de conflictos, por que dentro de si lleva dos fuerzas enfrentadas: por un lado la de un simple deseo humano de felicidad, satisfacción y seguridad de vida, y por otra una pasión despiadada que puede llegar al punto de pasar por encima de todos los deseos personales
Que haces, como te preparas antes de salir a cada concierto donde miles van a ver cada mínimo movimiento que hagas.
Primero una Oración y meditación, después varias respiraciones y exhalaciones. Hay que tener la capacidad de relajarte mentalmente y centrar tus pensamientos en el contexto de tu entorno personal e interior de paz y tranquilidad, a pesar de lo estresante que pueda ser la vida. De esta forma puedo practicar mi arte en cualquier circunstancia, ya que cualquier tensión o problema puede poner un freno al flujo creativo e interpretativo. Como compositor son técnicas muy valiosas, en realidad yo digo que esenciales. Concentrarse en forma lógica y total en el sonido de la música es increíblemente complicado en un mundo lleno de palabras, ruido inarmónico, giras y estrés. Pero independientemente de estas técnicas también me destierro a la soledad de la playa o el bosque a nutrirme de elementos naturales que me inspiren, llenen y revitalicen para dejar fluir las ideas de un nuevo proyecto creativo.
Que es lo que sucede en un concierto una ves que estas en el escenario como interprete
Respiro , después dejo que mi cuerpo se adapte a la temperatura de el lugar , siento como mis pies se conectan con el escenario , hay un aplauso caluroso al salir y después un sosiego absoluto , un silencio absoluto donde la interpretación empieza a manifestarse , vuelves a respirar ya que el publico registra hasta tu mas mínimo temblor , me relajo , desprendo cualquier ansia y a disfrutarlo dejando que sean mis sentimientos y emociones las que hablen en complicidad con las de los públicos , hasta llegar al éxtasis que ambos buscamos .
Leía en otra entrevista que te hicieron que leías Cosmos de Carl Sagan, crees que la música crea un efecto no solo en los seres humanos, si no en el cosmos como un todo
Claro, la música puede incluso, transformar la materia en espíritu, en su estado original al entrar en contacto con cada átomo de un todo, con cada ser humano, gracias a la ley de vibración armónica. No obstante la música penetra en lo mas profundo de nuestro ser y, de esta forma, crea una nueva fuerza vital, un aliento de aire que infunde júbilo en cualquier existencia y conduce al ser a la perfección. En eso reside la realización de la vida humana.
Paco por que tocas descalzo
Bueno ya lo venía haciendo años antes cuando he realizado conciertos en la Playa, como te decía antes me ayuda a conectarme de inmediato con la energía de el lugar, hace que fluya mas rápido y además me encanta por la comodidad, que es lo que hace cualquier persona cuando llega a casa, quitar y aventar los zapatos, bueno yo trato que nada me impida la comodidad de expresar y sentir por eso me gusta la comodidad en todo el cuerpo en cada concierto.
De tu discografía anterior me encanta Océano, aunque has tenido el doble de ventas con el de Gitanerías quizá por el tema de la película Mariachi (Pistolero)
Creo que hacer un performance de Los Lobos con mariachi mucho mas flamenca y grabarla 2 veces hace ya más de 6 años con Gitano Latino y después con Gitanerías fue un acierto ya que la gente la identifica mucho , sin embargo composiciones mías como piel de mujer , Vallarta Nights , Caribe , caminante solitario , el corazón me habla de ti , vive el tequila , Egipto , eternidad , gitano latino han tenido más éxito , y algunas de ellas son mucho más éxito en otros países donde son temas de series y películas. Así que mariachi cada ves es mas una experiencia de el pasado.
Tuve oportunidad de escuchar tu nuevo material antes de esta entrevista , el cual agradezco , y pude darme cuenta de que no en todas tus composiciones tocas la guitarra y que además en otras cantas , esto es completamente nuevo para mi , que me puedes comentar al respecto
Así es no puedo limitar una idea musical a 6 cuerdas y mucho menos a limitar mi musicalidad como compositor, sucede que en este disco soy guitarrista y músico, ahora no contradiciendo lo que antes te decía, ahora si sentía ganas de decir en estas canciones una idea especifica, si bien he cantado toda la vida en el baño, me sentí cómodo al hacerlo y creo que algún día lo volveré a hacer.
Encuentro un disco muy emocional y contrastante
Lo es, soy una persona con vivencias muy profundas, hermosas y diferentes al primer disco de hace 6 o 7 años y creo que se refleja hoy mas que nunca en este disco.

Consideras que Gitanus es tu mejor disco
No creo que pueda decir que es mejor, pero si creo que representa una etapa de mayor madurez musical y personal. Creo que esta debe reflejarse en la musicalidad de este nuevo proyecto, sin embargo definitivamente hay una evolución de los discos anteriores a este último.
Paco Rentería, te consideras original
La originalidad no consiste en ser distinto del pasado o distinto del presente, significa ser el origen, actuando desde el propio centro. Las primeras ideas por obvias que las consideremos son las inspiradas y son originales, por que por más que sean obvias para nosotros para el resto será completamente original. Cuales son los temas que ahora te interesan
Todos. La literatura, la política, los seres humanos, la belleza de las mujeres.
En el fondo creo que siempre me han interesado primordialmente las mismas cosas: la condición mortal del hombre, la fugacidad de la vida y por otro lado la frustración de ver a mi país incapaz de suprimir la miseria y alcanzar un nivel de vida aceptable para todos sus habitantes. Cada vez estoy más convencido que en el mundo no podremos hablar de paz mientras haya gente que se acuesta si haber satisfecho su hambre. Seguramente que son este tipo de preocupaciones las que alimentan la necesidad de expresarse para una persona con un oficio como el que tengo.
Cual sería tu peor frustración
El divisar el fin y no haber podido arrancar dentro de mí la obra musical que oscuramente soñaba. Vamos el que nunca llegue a llenar el vacío entre lo que soñé hacer y lo que logré hacer, y eso es lo que me ha hecho trabajar sin cesar en tratar de conseguirlo.

In one of the most luxurious Hotels in San José del Cabo, South Baja California, where only Hollywood artist can pay one night of 5000 dollars, we can see Paco Rentería with the same aplomb that in other occasions, don’t look impress by the sumptuousity around us.

After an exciting Tour in 2005 and with the calm of having finally the time to enjoy deserved vacations, a couple of months spread between Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta are these vacations. To live in this century makes you impossible subtracting you from al roots that transit in the terraquean globe. The flamenco Gitan it’s what predominate, the musical fusion is one of the recent commitments of this musician. Paco Rentería who precisely moves on this territory of the mestizaje.
Paco Rentería and his group with six years of hard work, there are some who say who specialize in the mixture of different currents, there are some who say what he gave a renovation to flamenco, other say that he gives a new fresh perspective to the music calling her World Beat, the unique truth it that whatever be, the music of Rentería it’s a provocation of scars in the soul and cause troubles in our emotions. Well, alter practically work 5 years without rest, I deserved some vacation, nevertheless this helps me to evaluate the good and bad of 2005 and years before and to plane wit calm and tranquility all projects of this 2006
WHEN DO YOU BEGUINE YOUR CONCERT ON THIS 2006?
I think in the middle of March
WHAT YOU MISSING OF HAVING THOSE TWO SABATIC MONTHS?
The tranquility, the calm of reading, the family reunions, going for shopping, composing 24 hours of daily, don’t think in hotels, rooms, flies, in a few words don’t be tied to schedules, compromises and obligations. Although I tell you that I never unattended from my office and enterprise even at home or in this beautiful places I’m still having some meeting and talking with all my staff, production, manager for I told you to project on this 2006
THERE ARE CHANGES ON THIS 2006?
Many changes, beginning with production, new musician, new music and we are going to do quite a few concerts that in years before, in a few words only we are going to do concerts where we can present the maximum of our production.
YOU WILL BE MORE SELECTIVE?
Well as a matter o fact more strict with the production, without many variations from concert to concert with sound, lights, background and prestige.
DID YOU SAY CHANGES IN THE BAND?
Mainly being more demanding myself and also with them

Too much, but this year much more.

I hope don’t, because we have been working in a good ambience and we understand each other well, however I think that there are cycles, so I don’t know what can happen anyway everything it’s fine.

Definitely not, however one never end to know persons, if somebody can answer that question will be their friends or family from them because it’s better where they stay more confidents.
WAT TYPE OF MUSICIAN DOES PEOPLE CONSIDER YOU?
More than musician I consider myself as curios, an interfering in music.
HOW IT´S THAT?
I always try to question more that I can, because in the moment of the creation all serve to influenciate me, all music that I hear, the places, persons that I know in all places where we go part of all that it’s what I capture in my compositions, I talk with my soul, I make my reflections, I explore, agonize with all I feel and notice.

It’s just my music and what I feel
PACO, FROM WHERE COME THOSE REFLECTIONS, THAT WAY TO SEE THE LIFE AND YOUR ART?
I was educated to understand and explore, to watch and to notice it’s something crucial to take my artistic and intellectual life complete. My father and mother were my mentors, not mentioned for they told me, but the way on they lived their lifes and the way to face the world. My mother a painter woman and my father a lawyer representing the left side and the right side of my brain: the academic and the artistic. That I believe it’s the beginning, however I think all that information that I have been received upon my life from all sources, travels, experiences, studies, they influenced me very deeply and made me a reflexive person ever looking a solitude moment to analyze the feelings that move and illuminate my creativity, having every one of those his own way to enter in the ideals of my soul and from my music.
Which are the themes that right now are you interested as an artist?
All where is involved mainly the emotions of the human being
You have been told me that being a musician it’s a profession without end.
Yes it is, when do you believe that you has given a big step you take in to account that there are more ways, when you open a door you find another 5 more, when have finished a piece of work you are satisfied just for a few moments, but shortly you want more and beguine to look everything you have done or modified, in other occasions there are out of phase between what we want to do, what we use dream to do and what we can really do, you found limits to surpass, easy ways, darks, sparkling in your inspiration or darkness in the continuation of the same, there is magic, mystery, exist ways that go further away and approach the lines between dreams and reality, I think that we have something new to learn. Art is an exploration in the night. It’s a thing we are not sure of anything, casually that is the stimulus that makes you try again. For that reason that after a recording session of some record once in sale I don’t want to lessen it again for don’t get tortured by criticize myself, because I am ever thirsty for more and more.
Then doesn’t exist the perfect work of art?
Surly there are between the Classics and in the Renaissance. When the world of the artist was solid. The world that we are living it’s a uncertainly world, distressing, eating himself and some in a while we don’t know for sure the land we step. Then our art in many occasions, when we left of being idealistic.
The Latin-American Culture exists?
Why we don’t ask to Borges, Vallejo, Rulfo, Sábato, Alfonso Reyes, Octavio Paz, Rubén Darío, Fuentes, Luis Barragán, Revueltas, Ponce, Villalobos, Botero, Fonseca and many more.
Which is your big passion?

Which has been your more difficult presentation?
The term difficult it’s wide, but very often has been technical factors o meteorologists, because related to public God has blessed me with his loving.
You told me that you look of moments of solitude, why?
To listen the sound of silence, that put us in contact with ourselves and helps us to recognize the best internally.
Then, to communicate too in silence it’s important?
The word alone doesn’t say it all, it’s the non verbal language which gives them his precise meaning, the tone, volume, rhythm and much other shade of meanings. The silence also communicates and transmits many emotions, feelings and sensations than words never will did it feel, how many times what we have loved we can’t find the words to say what we fill to our love. So that intimacy, the corporal language, the strongest feelings, wit the more sublimes sensations we find in silence his better cause and way to make them fill to the marrow, where we can draw the body of our loving with the silent pencil of our tongue and the ink of our saliva and where our soul is converted in to the sheet that embrace, enjoy and love.
Do you thing that human beings are afraid to silence?
Yes that’s it, at least a majority, I thing that the move away consist in entering our inner world and there to recognize us as a human beings, with all our defects an qualities, it’s like a mine than for finding gold we must to prick stone and to pass the slag. For that we are afraid and terror to be with us to seat for a moment doing nothing, because we are convinced that what build us persons is what we do and isn’t that way, what conform us as human beings is inside, deep in the intimacy and there, there is why we must seek, doing a stop in the uncontrolled life, active and in some occasions like robotic.
You already did it?
Daily, for that I can talk with that security, all moments of silence and solitude are my accomplices and fellows to compose, because I take out all my personal experiences, demons, phantasms and season’s angels.
It’s hard the music?, it’s hard to compose? (Paco smile)
Music it’s elemental not only music, it’s irrational without forms, not sequences, elemental music it’s mundane, natural, physical, any can learn it an experiment it, it’s a toy’s game, you can knock the door many times or a pan and that’s music. I think the art of making music it’s difficult like any type of art but most of all requires a lot of commitment and tenacity. However music requires also talent and vocation of a disciplined work on which our creations teach us to obey what it is in our interior.
Now that you mentioned, for me it’s very clearly that I have been following you for more than 10 years your evolution and see how you capture the audience, but still there are detractors people that don’t get tired of criticism, that affect you?
I already answered you, it’s their problem not mine. My philosophy of life is that if you are not having friends neither have enemies. I can’t deny that it hurts me years ago but because they were people close to me showing me their best face and behind to bang a dagger on my shoulder, nevertheless my truly friends, public and me for sure made me to realize that it’s a reality that we face all who are in a shop window generating so much emotions, in most of the people an excellent vibration, where energy flows inside and outside but unfortunately in other is not the same, I wish to them that unlike my music, don’t listen it, if I don’t like them as a person get away of me and don’t go to the concerts I perform and in the case if in one moment of my life I ever offend somebody with some comment, etc. I ask for their forgivness. And if somebody wants to tell me that in person I am glad to attend them. There are friends who tell me that behind all those persons who told and criticize there are fears, agonies, phantasms, demons, insecurities and much more they are already life’s looser or they was born as looser, I don’t know I only send them my best wishes and blessings.
Thousand and thousand of persons loves you, why do you think that there are a few don’t.
It´s an old saying that from hate to love it’s just one step. I don’t stop to see if somebody say good thing about me, that’s work than my office do, and the bad one it doesn’t matter to me, that makes you to wear out and loose energy. In this carrier everything it’s just to work. It is true that somebody wrongly considered as a flamenco guitarist; when myself in many occasions I have said that I am not. As I said to you before I feel that it’s my soul what I give, don’t put them titles, and those who does, they do it without bad intention, and those don’t agree can listen to whatever likes.
Which is the formula you use to capture too much public and so diversity?
Very far from the impulse to create, there is a deeper level of compromise, a state of unity as a whole far beyond from us. When this element of unity penetrates our way to play we obtain something that is far beyond of creativity, far beyond of purposes or dedication. We arrive to the state of acting for love. Love got to see with the perpetuity of life and in an irrevocable way links to very deep values. I never wonder, the power of writing, music, painting or dance for take away sadness, disappointment, depression, etc.
I don’t talk of entertaining or distraction, but playing, to dance, to draw. To write to spend a bad moment and leaving it. That’s the way I see my music as an alternative of feelings and emotions for let the public to travel, removes, fix, change or at least to forget on those instants. With a heeling power in the soul and for that we must beguine being honest one selves, to believe in what we do, wit a lot of respect, love everybody, to understand that each public it’s different, to keep alive the love being always grateful to God by each success after I finish may concerts.
Now that you talk of this, almost there are not exceptions to the rule that a person must pay a lot for the divine power of creative fire.
I hope being the rule’s exception, but it’s something on that and you have a lot of reason, Carl Jung said that the life of an artist must be full of conflicts; because inside of one you have two encounter forces; in one side the single human wish of happiness, satisfaction and life’s security and in the other a merciless passion that can drive to you to pass above from all personal whishes.
What do you do?. How prepare yourself before your performance on every concert where thousands going to see every single movement that you do?
First a pray and meditation, later some breathing and exhalations. We must to have the capacity of mentally relaxing and focus your thoughts in the context of your environment and inside of you of pace and tranquility, in spite of the stress of the life. In this way I can practice my art in any circumstance, because any tension or problem can slow down the creative and interpretative flow. As a composer those are valuable techniques, in reality I say they are essentials. To focus in a logical and total way in the sound of music it’s incredible complicated in a world full of word, unharmonious noise, tours and stress. However independently of these techniques also I exile me to solitude of a beach or to the forest to nourish of natural elements that inspire me, full me and revitalized me to let flow the ideas of a new creative project.
What happens in a concert when you are on stage as an interpreter?
I breath, later I let my body adapt the temperature of the place, I fill how my foot connects whit the scenario, there is an hot applause at the end and later an absolute silence where the interpretation beguine to show and you back to breathe because the public register a minimum trembling, I relax me and I remove any anxiety and I enjoy it leaving my fillings and emotions who talk in complicity with the public, until arriving to ecstasy that we are looking for.
I was reading in other interview that somebody you was reading Cosmos from Carl Sagan do you believe that music create an effect not only in human being, or in the cosmos as a whole.
Of course, music can even transform the material in spirit in his original stage entering in contact wit every atom as a whole, with every human being, thank to the law of harmonic vibration. Nevertheless the music penetrates very deep in or interior and in this way creates a new vital force, a breath of air that infuse jubilation on any existence and drives you to the perfection. In that resides the realization of human life.
Paco why do you play barefoot?
Well I have years doing it for years in my concerts on the beach, as I told you it helps me to connect immediately with the energy of the place, it makes me flow fast and I love the commodity of taking off the shoes when you arrive your home and throw away the shoes. Well I try nothing interfere me the commodity to express and fill that’s why I like the commodity in all my body in each concert.
From your previous discography I love Ocean, even thought you have doubled sales with Gitanerías, maybe for the theme of the film Mariachi (Pistolero)
I think that doing a performance of the Lobos with Mariachi in a flamenco way and tape twice from six years ago an later with Gitanerías was a good choose because people identify it very much. However my compositions like Skin’s woman, Vallarta Night, Caribe, Lonely walking, The heart talks me from you, Live the Tequila, Egypt, Eternity, Gipsy Latin has been a success and some of them are much more successfully in other countries where there are themes of series and films. That’s why Mariachi every time it’s more a past’s experience
I had the opportunity to listen your new material before the interview, and I appreciate it and I could taking in to account that not always you play guitar and in others you sing , that is completely new for me, what are your comments about it.
Yes there is I can’t limit a musical idea to six cords and much less to limit my musicality as a composer, it happens that in the last CD I am a guitarist and musician, now a contradictory than I told you before, now I felt the way to say on this songs an specific idea, If I have song all my life in the bathroom, I fill convenience to do it and I thing some day I will do it again.
I found a CD very emotional and contrasting.
Yes it is, I am a person with very deep personal experiences, beautiful and different to the first CD six o seven years ago and I think that it reflects today more than ever on this CD.

Tours, concerts, a first DVD of more than three hours long and beguine to compose and fix the themes of the new CD.
Are you going to start the new CD?
Well as a matter o fact I started a while ago and I’m very happy whit this new project.
Do you know the name of this production?
Yes I know it, but I’m not going to tell you, I only can give you an advance that it is dedicated to the Bull’s fight, but right now let’s talk about Gitanus.
Do you consider Gitanus your best CD?
No I don’t think so, but I believe that it represents a step of musical maturity and personal. I think that it must reflect in the musicality of this new project, however definitely there is an evolution from previous CDS to the last one.
Paco Rentería, are you considered yourself original?
Original doesn’t consist in being different from the past o distinct of the present, it means being the origin, acting from the proper center. First ideas obviously considered inspired and there are originals, because can be obvious to us for the rest it will be completely original. For that reason being ourselves twice, will be more universal our message.
What are you dreaming about?
In my life converted into a work of art.

I like everything, but I prefer Mexican kitchen and the garnachas are my favorites, however I like all natural food especially all related to natural fruit juices.

On the bottom I think interested on the same thinks: the mortal condition of man, the brief of the life and in the other hand the frustration to see my country unable to finish misery and to reach an acceptable level of life for all his inhabitants. El vivir en este siglo te hace imposible deslindarte de todas las raíces que transitan en el globo terráqueo. EL flamenco gitano es lo que predomina, la fusión musical es uno de los cometidos recientes de este músico, Paco Rentería quién precisamente se mueve en estos territorios del mestizaje.
Paco Rentería y su agrupación con quién tiene 6 años trabajando arduamente, hay quienes dicen que se especializa en la mezcla de distintas corrientes, hay quienes dicen que le da una renovación al flamenco, otros dicen que brinda una perspectiva fresca a la música llamándola World Beat, la única verdad es que sea cual sea, la música de Rentería provoca cicatrices en el alma y causa estragos en nuestras emociones. 2 meses de vacaciones
Bueno después de trabajar prácticamente 5 años sin parar ya me merecía unas vacaciones, sin embargo esto me ayuda a evaluar lo malo y lo bueno del 2005 y años anteriores y proyectar con calma y tranquilidad todos los proyectos de este 2006.
¿Cuando inicias conciertos en este 2006?
Creo a mediados de marzo
¿Que extrañabas de tener estos más de dos meses sabáticos?
La tranquilidad , la calma de poder leer , de convivir con mi familia , de ir con toda tranquilidad de compras , de componer 24 horas al día , de no pensar en hoteles , habitaciones , vuelos de aviones , en pocas palabras no tener que estar sujeto a horarios , compromisos y obligaciones , aunque te diré que nunca dejo de desentenderme de mi oficina y mi empresa aun en mi casa o en estos hermosos lugares estoy teniendo algunas juntas , y platicas con toda la gente de mi producción , manager para como te decía proyectar este 2006 .
¿Hay cambios en este 2006?
Muchos cambios de entrada con la producción, nuevos músicos, nueva música, y vamos ha realizar menos conciertos que en años anteriores, en pocas palabras solo haremos los conciertos en donde podamos presentar al máximo nuestra producción.
¿Serás más selectivo?
Mas bien mucho mas estricto con la producción, que no haya variantes de un concierto a otro con sonido, iluminación entorno y prestigio
¿Decías cambios en la banda?
Principalmente mucho más exigente conmigo y con ellos

Mucho, pero este año mucho más
¿Habrá cambios en el grupo base?
Yo espero que no, ya que hemos venido trabajando con un muy buen ambiente y nos entendemos bien, sin embargo creo que también hay ciclos, así que no se que pueda pasar por lo pronto todo esta “muy bien “.
¿Crees que tus músicos te envidien?
Definitivamente no lo creo, sin embargo uno nunca termina de conocer a las personas, si alguien sabría contestar esa pregunta serían sus amigos, conocidos o familiares de ellos por que es donde a lo mejor se expresan con mas confianza.
¿Que tipo de músico te consideras?
Más que músico me considero un curioso, un entrometido de la música
¿Como es eso?
Siempre trato de indagar lo mas que se pueda, por que al momento de la creación todo me sirve de influencia, toda la música que oigo, los lugares, las personas que conozco en todos los lugares a donde vamos parte de todo eso es lo que se plasma en mis composiciones, platico con mi alma, reflexiono, exploro, agonizo con todo lo que percibo y siento.
Paco Rentería tiene un encanto para la gente, creo que esta ahí en los enlaces musicales, en las conversaciones internas, en la reflexión musical de tus temas.

Solo es mi música y mi sentir
Paco, de donde vienen esas reflexiones, esa manera de percibir la vida y tu arte
Me educaron para entender que explorar, observar y percibir es algo crucial para poder llevar una vida artística e intelectual completa. Mi padre y mi madre fueron mis mentores, no tanto por lo que me dijeron, sino por la manera en que vivieron sus vidas y como afrontaron el mundo. Mi madre pintora y mi padre abogado representaban el lado izquierdo y el lado derecho del cerebro: lo académico y lo artístico. Eso creo que es el inicio , sin embargo creo que toda la información que he recibido durante mi vida de todas las fuentes , viajes , experiencias , estudios , ejercieron profunda influencia y a creado al menos en mí , a una persona reflexiva y que busca siempre un momento de soledad para analizar los sentimientos que me conmueven e iluminan mi creatividad , teniendo cada uno de estos , su propia manera de pernear en los entornos e ideales de mi alma y de mi música.
Cuales son los temas que ahora te interesan como artista
Todos en donde se involucre principalmente las emociones del ser humano
Me has comentado que el ser músico es una carrera que no tiene fin
Así es , cuando crees que has dado un gran paso te das cuenta que hay mas caminos , cuando abres una puerta te encuentras con otras 5 más , cuando has terminado una obra quedas satisfecho solo unos momentos , pero en tiempo corto quieres más y empiezas a buscarle todo lo que le hubieras hecho o modificado , en otras ocasiones hay un desfase entre lo que uno quiere hacer , lo que uno sueña hacer y lo que uno puede hacer , encuentras limitantes para superar , caminos fáciles , obscuros , brillo en tu inspiración o tinieblas en tu continuación de la misma , hay magia , misterio , existen caminos que alejan y acercan las líneas entre la realidad y el sueño , creo que siempre tienes algo nuevo que aprender . El arte es una exploración en la noche. Es una cosa que uno nunca esta seguro de nada, casualmente ese es el estimulo que lo hace a uno volver a intentarlo. Y es por eso que después de una grabación de algún disco una ves que sale a la venta, no lo vuelvo a escuchar para no atormentarme por que todo me critico, por que siempre tengo sed de más y más.
Entonces no existe la Obra de Arte perfecta
Seguramente la hay entre los Clásicos y en el Renacimiento. Cundo el mundo de el artista era sólido. El mundo que nos ha tocado vivir es un mundo, desconcertado, angustioso, que se esta comiendo así mismo y donde a ratos no se sabe muy bien en que terreno se pisa. Entonces nuestro arte en muchas ocasiones, cuando dejamos de ser idealistas no hace otra cosa que reflejar esa insatisfacción y esa desesperación, afortunadamente en mi caso sigo creyendo en un mundo tan bello como es en el que me toco vivir.

El termino dificultad es amplio, pero casi siempre han sido factores técnicos o metereologicos, por que en cuanto a publico Dios me ha bendecido con su cariño.
Comentabas que buscas momentos de soledad por que
Para escuchar la voz de el silencio, que nos pone en contacto con nosotros mismos, y nos ayuda a reconocer en nuestro interior lo mejor.
Entonces comunicarse también en silencio es importante
Las puras palabras no dicen todo, es el lenguaje no verbal el que les da su significado preciso, el tono, el volumen, el ritmo y otros mucho matices. También el silencio comunica y transmite muchas emociones , sentimientos y sensaciones que las palabras jamás lo harían sentir o nos dejarían sentir , cuantas veces los que hemos amado no encontramos las palabras para decir lo que sentimos a nuestro ser querido , Así entonces , la intimidad ,el lenguaje corporal , los sentimientos mas fuertes , con las sensaciones mas sublimes encuentran en el silencio su mejor cause y camino para hacerlas sentir hasta el tuétano , en donde podemos dibujar el cuerpo de el ser amado con el lápiz silencioso de nuestra lengua y la tinta de nuestra saliva , y donde nuestra alma se convierte en la sabana que abraza , goza y ama .
Crees que los seres humanos le tenemos miedo al silencio
Así es , por lo menos una gran mayoría , creo que el recogimiento consiste en entrar en nuestro mundo interior y ahí reconocernos como humanos , con todos nuestros defectos y todas nuestras cualidades , es como una mina que para encontrar el oro hay que picar piedra y pasar por la escoria . Es por eso que tenemos miedo, pavor a estar con nosotros, a sentarnos un momento sin hacer nada, por que estamos convencidos que lo que nos construye como personas es lo que hacemos y no es así, lo que nos conforma como seres humanos esta dentro, en lo mas intimo de la propia intimidad, y ahí hay que ir a buscarlo haciendo una alto a la vida desenfrenada, activista y en ocasiones hasta robótica.
Tú ya lo hiciste
Diario, por eso puedo hablar con esa seguridad, todos los momentos de silencio y soledad son mis cómplices y compañeros para componer, por que saco todas mis vivencias, demonios, fantasmas y Ángeles de la temporada.
Es difícil la música, es difícil componer (Paco Sonríe)
La música elemental no es simplemente música , es prerracional, no tiene formas , ni secuencias , la música elemental es mundana , natural , física , cualquiera puede aprenderla y experimentarla , es un juego de niños , tu puedes tocar un puerta varias veces , o una cazuela , y eso ya es música . Creo que el Arte de hacer música es difícil, así como el arte de hacer cualquier tipo de arte es muy difícil, pero sobre todo de mucha entrega y tenacidad. Pero no solamente talento y vocación sino de un trabajo disciplinado en que nuestras creaciones aprendan a obedecer lo que nuestro interior, subconsciente incluido, trata de plasmar. Lleva mucho tiempo ser músico pero lleva mas tiempo ser Artista.
Ahora que lo dices , vaya a mi me queda claro que te he seguido por mas de 10 años tu evolución , y ver como el público se te entrega , pero siguen existiendo personas o retractores que no se cansan de criticarte , te afecta esto .
Ya lo había contestado antes , el problema es de ellos no mío , mi filosofía de vida es que si no vas a tener amigos tampoco tengas enemigos , no te voy a negar que hace ya unos años si me dolía , pero mas que nada por ser personas que fueron cercanas a mí y que al estar frente a ellos me daban una cara y después te enterraban la daga por la espalda , sin embargo mis verdaderos amigos , el publico y yo mismo claro esta , hizo que viera que es una realidad que enfrentamos todos lo que estamos en un aparador que genera tantas emociones , en la mayoría de las personas una excelente vibra , donde la energía fluye de ida y vuelta , pero lamentablemente en otras pocas no es lo mismo ; yo les deseo a esas personas que si no les gusta mi música , que no la escuchen , que si no les agrado como persona , que se alejen de mí y que no vayan a los conciertos que realizo y que si en algún momento de mi vida he ofendido a alguien con algún comentario , etc... Pues les pido perdón. Y si hay algo que cualquiera de estas personas me lo quiera decir personalmente con gusto lo recibimos. Hay amigos que me han comentado que detrás de todas esas personas que hablan y critican , hay miedos , agonías , fantasmas , demonios , inseguridades , es mas , que ellos ya perdieron en la vida o nacieron perdedores , no lo se , yo solo les mando y les deseo todas las bendiciones .
Miles y miles de personas te quieren y les encantas, por que crees que en otras pocas no sea lo mismo
No dicen que del odio al amor hay solo un paso. Mira no me detengo ni siquiera a ver que bueno dicen de mí, eso lo hace mi oficina, lo malo menos, ya que solo hace que desgastes y pierdas energía, en esta carrera solo hay que trabajar, es cierto que a más de alguno le sigue haciendo ruido que me consideren guitarrista de flamenco, cuando yo he dicho en innumerables ocasiones, que no lo soy. Como te dije antes es mi sentir, es mi alma lo que doy, no le pongan títulos, y los que lo hacen, lo hacen sin ninguna mala intención, y los que no están de acuerdo que no se claven y que escuchen a quien ellos quieran.
Cual es la fórmula para que les gustes a tantos públicos tan diversos
Mas allá del impulso de crear o interpretar hay un nivel aún mas profundo de compromiso, un estado de unión con un todo que está mas allá de nosotros. Cuando este elemento de unión penetra nuestras formas de juego, obtenemos algo que esta más allá de la mera creatividad, más allá del propósito o la dedicación: llegamos al estado de actuar por amor. El amor tiene que ver con la perpetuación de la vida, y por lo tanto está irrevocablemente ligado a valores muy profundos. Nunca ha dejado de maravillarme, el poder de la escritura, la música, la pintura o la danza para sacarme de la tristeza, desilusión, la depresión, etc... No hablo de entretenimiento o distracción, sino de tocar, bailar, dibujar, escribir, para atravesar el mal momento y salir de el. Así veo mi música como una alternativa de sentimientos y emociones para que el público viaje , remueva , arregle , cambie o por lo menos olvide en esos instantes , que tenga un poder curativo en el alma ; así que hay que empezar a ser honesto contigo , creer en lo que haces , tenerles mucho respeto , quererlos a todos , entender que cada público es diferente , mantener vivo el amor y agradecer a Dios siempre por cada éxito cuando acabo los conciertos.
Ahora que hablas de esto, casi no hay excepciones a la regla de que una persona debe pagar muy caro por el don divino del fuego creativo
Espero ser la excepción de la regla, pero algo hay de eso e igual tienes mucha razón, decía Carl Jung que la vida de un artista necesariamente debe estar llena de conflictos, por que dentro de si lleva dos fuerzas enfrentadas: por un lado la de un simple deseo humano de felicidad, satisfacción y seguridad de vida, y por otra una pasión despiadada que puede llegar al punto de pasar por encima de todos los deseos personales
Que haces, como te preparas antes de salir a cada concierto donde miles van a ver cada mínimo movimiento que hagas.
Primero una Oración y meditación, después varias respiraciones y exhalaciones. Hay que tener la capacidad de relajarte mentalmente y centrar tus pensamientos en el contexto de tu entorno personal e interior de paz y tranquilidad, a pesar de lo estresante que pueda ser la vida. De esta forma puedo practicar mi arte en cualquier circunstancia, ya que cualquier tensión o problema puede poner un freno al flujo creativo e interpretativo. Como compositor son técnicas muy valiosas, en realidad yo digo que esenciales. Concentrarse en forma lógica y total en el sonido de la música es increíblemente complicado en un mundo lleno de palabras, ruido inarmónico, giras y estrés. Pero independientemente de estas técnicas también me destierro a la soledad de la playa o el bosque a nutrirme de elementos naturales que me inspiren, llenen y revitalicen para dejar fluir las ideas de un nuevo proyecto creativo.
Que es lo que sucede en un concierto una ves que estas en el escenario como interprete
Respiro , después dejo que mi cuerpo se adapte a la temperatura de el lugar , siento como mis pies se conectan con el escenario , hay un aplauso caluroso al salir y después un sosiego absoluto , un silencio absoluto donde la interpretación empieza a manifestarse , vuelves a respirar ya que el publico registra hasta tu mas mínimo temblor , me relajo , desprendo cualquier ansia y a disfrutarlo dejando que sean mis sentimientos y emociones las que hablen en complicidad con las de los públicos , hasta llegar al éxtasis que ambos buscamos .
Leía en otra entrevista que te hicieron que leías Cosmos de Carl Sagan, crees que la música crea un efecto no solo en los seres humanos, si no en el cosmos como un todo
Claro, la música puede incluso, transformar la materia en espíritu, en su estado original al entrar en contacto con cada átomo de un todo, con cada ser humano, gracias a la ley de vibración armónica. No obstante la música penetra en lo mas profundo de nuestro ser y, de esta forma, crea una nueva fuerza vital, un aliento de aire que infunde júbilo en cualquier existencia y conduce al ser a la perfección. En eso reside la realización de la vida humana.
Paco por que tocas descalzo
Bueno ya lo venía haciendo años antes cuando he realizado conciertos en la Playa, como te decía antes me ayuda a conectarme de inmediato con la energía de el lugar, hace que fluya mas rápido y además me encanta por la comodidad, que es lo que hace cualquier persona cuando llega a casa, quitar y aventar los zapatos, bueno yo trato que nada me impida la comodidad de expresar y sentir por eso me gusta la comodidad en todo el cuerpo en cada concierto.
De tu discografía anterior me encanta Océano, aunque has tenido el doble de ventas con el de Gitanerías quizá por el tema de la película Mariachi (Pistolero)
Creo que hacer un performance de Los Lobos con mariachi mucho mas flamenca y grabarla 2 veces hace ya más de 6 años con Gitano Latino y después con Gitanerías fue un acierto ya que la gente la identifica mucho , sin embargo composiciones mías como piel de mujer , Vallarta Nights , Caribe , caminante solitario , el corazón me habla de ti , vive el tequila , Egipto , eternidad , gitano latino han tenido más éxito , y algunas de ellas son mucho más éxito en otros países donde son temas de series y películas. Así que mariachi cada ves es mas una experiencia de el pasado.
Tuve oportunidad de escuchar tu nuevo material antes de esta entrevista , el cual agradezco , y pude darme cuenta de que no en todas tus composiciones tocas la guitarra y que además en otras cantas , esto es completamente nuevo para mi , que me puedes comentar al respecto
Así es no puedo limitar una idea musical a 6 cuerdas y mucho menos a limitar mi musicalidad como compositor, sucede que en este disco soy guitarrista y músico, ahora no contradiciendo lo que antes te decía, ahora si sentía ganas de decir en estas canciones una idea especifica, si bien he cantado toda la vida en el baño, me sentí cómodo al hacerlo y creo que algún día lo volveré a hacer.
Encuentro un disco muy emocional y contrastante
Lo es, soy una persona con vivencias muy profundas, hermosas y diferentes al primer disco de hace 6 o 7 años y creo que se refleja hoy mas que nunca en este disco.

Giras, conciertos, un primer DVD de más de tres horas de duración y empezar a componer y arreglar los temas del nuevo disco.

Si lo se pero no te lo voy a decir, solo te adelanto que es dedicado a la Fiesta Brava, pero ahora nos toca hablar de Gitanus.
Consideras que Gitanus es tu mejor disco
No creo que pueda decir que es mejor, pero si creo que representa una etapa de mayor madurez musical y personal. Creo que esta debe reflejarse en la musicalidad de este nuevo proyecto, sin embargo definitivamente hay una evolución de los discos anteriores a este último.
Paco Rentería, te consideras original
La originalidad no consiste en ser distinto del pasado o distinto del presente, significa ser el origen, actuando desde el propio centro. Las primeras ideas por obvias que las consideremos son las inspiradas y son originales, por que por más que sean obvias para nosotros para el resto será completamente original. Por eso cuanto mas uno mismo es uno mismo más universal será nuestro mensaje.

Bueno yo no llamaría perdido, creo que las personas que amamos nunca mueren, permanecen, viven y trascienden en las personas que los amamos.
Cuales son los temas que ahora te interesan
Todos. La literatura, la política, los seres humanos, la belleza de las mujeres.
En el fondo creo que siempre me han interesado primordialmente las mismas cosas: la condición mortal del hombre, la fugacidad de la vida y por otro lado la frustración de ver a mi país incapaz de suprimir la miseria y alcanzar un nivel de vida aceptable para todos sus habitantes. Cada vez estoy más convencido que en el mundo no podremos hablar de paz mientras haya gente que se acuesta si haber satisfecho su hambre. Seguramente que son este tipo de preocupaciones las que alimentan la necesidad de expresarse para una persona con un oficio como el que tengo.
Cual sería tu peor frustración
El divisar el fin y no haber podido arrancar dentro de mí la obra musical que oscuramente soñaba. Vamos el que nunca llegue a llenar el vacío entre lo que soñé hacer y lo que logré hacer, y eso es lo que me ha hecho trabajar sin cesar en tratar de conseguirlo.

Well, alter practically work 5 years without rest, I deserved some vacation, nevertheless this helps me to evaluate the good and bad of 2005 and years before and to plane wit calm and tranquility all projects of this 2006

I think in the middle of March
WHAT YOU MISSING OF HAVING THOSE TWO SABATIC MONTHS?
The tranquility, the calm of reading, the family reunions, going for shopping, composing 24 hours of daily, don’t think in hotels, rooms, flies, in a few words don’t be tied to schedules, compromises and obligations. Although I tell you that I never unattended from my office and enterprise even at home or in this beautiful places I’m still having some meeting and talking with all my staff, production, manager for I told you to project on this 2006
THERE ARE CHANGES ON THIS 2006?
Many changes, beginning with production, new musician, new music and we are going to do quite a few concerts that in years before, in a few words only we are going to do concerts where we can present the maximum of our production.
YOU WILL BE MORE SELECTIVE?
Well as a matter o fact more strict with the production, without many variations from concert to concert with sound, lights, background and prestige.

Definitely not, however one never end to know persons, if somebody can answer that question will be their friends or family from them because it’s better where they stay more confidents.

It’s just my music and what I feel
PACO, FROM WHERE COME THOSE REFLECTIONS, THAT WAY TO SEE THE LIFE AND YOUR ART?
I was educated to understand and explore, to watch and to notice it’s something crucial to take my artistic and intellectual life complete. My father and mother were my mentors, not mentioned for they told me, but the way on they lived their lifes and the way to face the world. My mother a painter woman and my father a lawyer representing the left side and the right side of my brain: the academic and the artistic. That I believe it’s the beginning, however I think all that information that I have been received upon my life from all sources, travels, experiences, studies, they influenced me very deeply and made me a reflexive person ever looking a solitude moment to analyze the feelings that move and illuminate my creativity, having every one of those his own way to enter in the ideals of my soul and from my music.
Which are the themes that right now are you interested as an artist?
All where is involved mainly the emotions of the human being
You have been told me that being a musician it’s a profession without end.
Yes it is, when do you believe that you has given a big step you take in to account that there are more ways, when you open a door you find another 5 more, when have finished a piece of work you are satisfied just for a few moments, but shortly you want more and beguine to look everything you have done or modified, in other occasions there are out of phase between what we want to do, what we use dream to do and what we can really do, you found limits to surpass, easy ways, darks, sparkling in your inspiration or darkness in the continuation of the same, there is magic, mystery, exist ways that go further away and approach the lines between dreams and reality, I think that we have something new to learn. Art is an exploration in the night. It’s a thing we are not sure of anything, casually that is the stimulus that makes you try again. For that reason that after a recording session of some record once in sale I don’t want to lessen it again for don’t get tortured by criticize myself, because I am ever thirsty for more and more.
Then doesn’t exist the perfect work of art?
Surly there are between the Classics and in the Renaissance. When the world of the artist was solid. The world that we are living it’s a uncertainly world, distressing, eating himself and some in a while we don’t know for sure the land we step. Then our art in many occasions, when we left of being idealistic.
The Latin-American Culture exists?
Why we don’t ask to Borges, Vallejo, Rulfo, Sábato, Alfonso Reyes, Octavio Paz, Rubén Darío, Fuentes, Luis Barragán, Revueltas, Ponce, Villalobos, Botero, Fonseca and many more.

Which has been your more difficult presentation?
The term difficult it’s wide, but very often has been technical factors o meteorologists, because related to public God has blessed me with his loving.
You told me that you look of moments of solitude, why?
To listen the sound of silence, that put us in contact with ourselves and helps us to recognize the best internally.
Then, to communicate too in silence it’s important?
The word alone doesn’t say it all, it’s the non verbal language which gives them his precise meaning, the tone, volume, rhythm and much other shade of meanings. The silence also communicates and transmits many emotions, feelings and sensations than words never will did it feel, how many times what we have loved we can’t find the words to say what we fill to our love. So that intimacy, the corporal language, the strongest feelings, wit the more sublimes sensations we find in silence his better cause and way to make them fill to the marrow, where we can draw the body of our loving with the silent pencil of our tongue and the ink of our saliva and where our soul is converted in to the sheet that embrace, enjoy and love.
Do you thing that human beings are afraid to silence?
Yes that’s it, at least a majority, I thing that the move away consist in entering our inner world and there to recognize us as a human beings, with all our defects an qualities, it’s like a mine than for finding gold we must to prick stone and to pass the slag. For that we are afraid and terror to be with us to seat for a moment doing nothing, because we are convinced that what build us persons is what we do and isn’t that way, what conform us as human beings is inside, deep in the intimacy and there, there is why we must seek, doing a stop in the uncontrolled life, active and in some occasions like robotic.
You already did it?
Daily, for that I can talk with that security, all moments of silence and solitude are my accomplices and fellows to compose, because I take out all my personal experiences, demons, phantasms and season’s angels.
It’s hard the music?, it’s hard to compose? (Paco smile)
Music it’s elemental not only music, it’s irrational without forms, not sequences, elemental music it’s mundane, natural, physical, any can learn it an experiment it, it’s a toy’s game, you can knock the door many times or a pan and that’s music. I think the art of making music it’s difficult like any type of art but most of all requires a lot of commitment and tenacity. However music requires also talent and vocation of a disciplined work on which our creations teach us to obey what it is in our interior.
Now that you mentioned, for me it’s very clearly that I have been following you for more than 10 years your evolution and see how you capture the audience, but still there are detractors people that don’t get tired of criticism, that affect you?
I already answered you, it’s their problem not mine. My philosophy of life is that if you are not having friends neither have enemies. I can’t deny that it hurts me years ago but because they were people close to me showing me their best face and behind to bang a dagger on my shoulder, nevertheless my truly friends, public and me for sure made me to realize that it’s a reality that we face all who are in a shop window generating so much emotions, in most of the people an excellent vibration, where energy flows inside and outside but unfortunately in other is not the same, I wish to them that unlike my music, don’t listen it, if I don’t like them as a person get away of me and don’t go to the concerts I perform and in the case if in one moment of my life I ever offend somebody with some comment, etc. I ask for their forgivness. And if somebody wants to tell me that in person I am glad to attend them. There are friends who tell me that behind all those persons who told and criticize there are fears, agonies, phantasms, demons, insecurities and much more they are already life’s looser or they was born as looser, I don’t know I only send them my best wishes and blessings.
Thousand and thousand of persons loves you, why do you think that there are a few don’t.
It´s an old saying that from hate to love it’s just one step. I don’t stop to see if somebody say good thing about me, that’s work than my office do, and the bad one it doesn’t matter to me, that makes you to wear out and loose energy. In this carrier everything it’s just to work. It is true that somebody wrongly considered as a flamenco guitarist; when myself in many occasions I have said that I am not. As I said to you before I feel that it’s my soul what I give, don’t put them titles, and those who does, they do it without bad intention, and those don’t agree can listen to whatever likes.
Which is the formula you use to capture too much public and so diversity?
Very far from the impulse to create, there is a deeper level of compromise, a state of unity as a whole far beyond from us. When this element of unity penetrates our way to play we obtain something that is far beyond of creativity, far beyond of purposes or dedication. We arrive to the state of acting for love. Love got to see with the perpetuity of life and in an irrevocable way links to very deep values. I never wonder, the power of writing, music, painting or dance for take away sadness, disappointment, depression, etc.
I don’t talk of entertaining or distraction, but playing, to dance, to draw. To write to spend a bad moment and leaving it. That’s the way I see my music as an alternative of feelings and emotions for let the public to travel, removes, fix, change or at least to forget on those instants. With a heeling power in the soul and for that we must beguine being honest one selves, to believe in what we do, wit a lot of respect, love everybody, to understand that each public it’s different, to keep alive the love being always grateful to God by each success after I finish may concerts.
Now that you talk of this, almost there are not exceptions to the rule that a person must pay a lot for the divine power of creative fire.
I hope being the rule’s exception, but it’s something on that and you have a lot of reason, Carl Jung said that the life of an artist must be full of conflicts; because inside of one you have two encounter forces; in one side the single human wish of happiness, satisfaction and life’s security and in the other a merciless passion that can drive to you to pass above from all personal whishes.
What do you do?. How prepare yourself before your performance on every concert where thousands going to see every single movement that you do?
First a pray and meditation, later some breathing and exhalations. We must to have the capacity of mentally relaxing and focus your thoughts in the context of your environment and inside of you of pace and tranquility, in spite of the stress of the life. In this way I can practice my art in any circumstance, because any tension or problem can slow down the creative and interpretative flow. As a composer those are valuable techniques, in reality I say they are essentials. To focus in a logical and total way in the sound of music it’s incredible complicated in a world full of word, unharmonious noise, tours and stress. However independently of these techniques also I exile me to solitude of a beach or to the forest to nourish of natural elements that inspire me, full me and revitalized me to let flow the ideas of a new creative project.
What happens in a concert when you are on stage as an interpreter?
I breath, later I let my body adapt the temperature of the place, I fill how my foot connects whit the scenario, there is an hot applause at the end and later an absolute silence where the interpretation beguine to show and you back to breathe because the public register a minimum trembling, I relax me and I remove any anxiety and I enjoy it leaving my fillings and emotions who talk in complicity with the public, until arriving to ecstasy that we are looking for.
I was reading in other interview that somebody you was reading Cosmos from Carl Sagan do you believe that music create an effect not only in human being, or in the cosmos as a whole.
Of course, music can even transform the material in spirit in his original stage entering in contact wit every atom as a whole, with every human being, thank to the law of harmonic vibration. Nevertheless the music penetrates very deep in or interior and in this way creates a new vital force, a breath of air that infuse jubilation on any existence and drives you to the perfection. In that resides the realization of human life.
Paco why do you play barefoot?
Well I have years doing it for years in my concerts on the beach, as I told you it helps me to connect immediately with the energy of the place, it makes me flow fast and I love the commodity of taking off the shoes when you arrive your home and throw away the shoes. Well I try nothing interfere me the commodity to express and fill that’s why I like the commodity in all my body in each concert.
From your previous discography I love Ocean, even thought you have doubled sales with Gitanerías, maybe for the theme of the film Mariachi (Pistolero)
I think that doing a performance of the Lobos with Mariachi in a flamenco way and tape twice from six years ago an later with Gitanerías was a good choose because people identify it very much. However my compositions like Skin’s woman, Vallarta Night, Caribe, Lonely walking, The heart talks me from you, Live the Tequila, Egypt, Eternity, Gipsy Latin has been a success and some of them are much more successfully in other countries where there are themes of series and films. That’s why Mariachi every time it’s more a past’s experience
I had the opportunity to listen your new material before the interview, and I appreciate it and I could taking in to account that not always you play guitar and in others you sing , that is completely new for me, what are your comments about it.
Yes there is I can’t limit a musical idea to six cords and much less to limit my musicality as a composer, it happens that in the last CD I am a guitarist and musician, now a contradictory than I told you before, now I felt the way to say on this songs an specific idea, If I have song all my life in the bathroom, I fill convenience to do it and I thing some day I will do it again.
I found a CD very emotional and contrasting.
Yes it is, I am a person with very deep personal experiences, beautiful and different to the first CD six o seven years ago and I think that it reflects today more than ever on this CD.
What’s coming up Paco?
Tours, concerts, a first DVD of more than three hours long and beguine to compose and fix the themes of the new CD.
Are you going to start the new CD?
Well as a matter o fact I started a while ago and I’m very happy whit this new project.
Do you know the name of this production?
Yes I know it, but I’m not going to tell you, I only can give you an advance that it is dedicated to the Bull’s fight, but right now let’s talk about Gitanus.
Do you consider Gitanus your best CD?
No I don’t think so, but I believe that it represents a step of musical maturity and personal. I think that it must reflect in the musicality of this new project, however definitely there is an evolution from previous CDS to the last one.
Paco Rentería, are you considered yourself original?
Original doesn’t consist in being different from the past o distinct of the present, it means being the origin, acting from the proper center. First ideas obviously considered inspired and there are originals, because can be obvious to us for the rest it will be completely original. For that reason being ourselves twice, will be more universal our message.
What are you dreaming about?
In my life converted into a work of art.
What are you thinking?
It will be interminable to say it, but perhaps right now some sopes of requesón

What do you like to eat?
I like everything, but I prefer Mexican kitchen and the garnachas are my favorites, however I like all natural food especially all related to natural fruit juices.
Do you eat too much before concerts?
Not really, it’s important fill light yourself and comfortable on stage, too much water and that’s it, of course finishing the concert I need a good supper.
I noticed you with some extra kilos from last time we saw you
Well I went up whit some kilos but right now I am doing some exercise to initiate the tour as we start.

Yes it is, she is my grandmother and she was an important person in my life
Have you lost dear family or friends?
Well I can’t say to loose them. I think that persons we love never die, they remain, live and are transcendental on the persons than we love.
Which are the themes on which are interested?
All of them. Literature, politics, human beings, the woman’s beauty.
On the bottom I think interested on the same thinks: the mortal condition of man, the brief of the life and in the other hand the frustration to see my country unable to finish misery and to reach an acceptable level of life for all his inhabitants. Every time I am convinced that in the world we can’t talk about peace while people went to bed without satisfying his hungry. Surely that those are worries who feed the need to express to a person whit an occupation as I have.
Which will be your worst frustration?
Watching the end and don’t´ let out my dreaming musical legacy. Don’t fill the emptiness that I dream about and what I achieve, that’s why I work frenetically to obtain it.

Paco: I am just a man full of passion, goals, longings, dreams and whit many worries, that adore my family, love for the life and for God.
What are you looking on that worries, longings, dreams, etc?
I want to be transcendental as a man, and in every way every day to be a better son, brother, father, friend, etc.
As we talk on our conversation, you told me that you hate the indifference of the people and the abuse of Mexican children that sleep on the streets.
Yes it is, the real world in which they live, make them vulnerable and victims of infant pornography, drug addiction, sexual abuse, and discrimination causes of the origin of physical, emotional and mental illness.
I know that I have one hour to ask any question, and already have many that I whish to do, however other are coming an before to continue, I would like to ask you about your God’s love, and as a musician there are those who don’t talk at all, which is your religion?, and why you say so?
I’m a believer, educated on the Catholic faith and the confirmation of that I see it in the art; as it was the God’s clothes, the way on which God go thorough of one incarnation, all the music, all arts take me to the sacred.
In your music God appears. It is complicated to come close that figure?
Yes very clear, but I’m just an intermediary that accept what God give me to create, play and give it to the public; but as a matter of fact it is all what I do, I’m just his translator on this music style, and related to the complexity, I will tell what I go from an experience, God it’s an experience not a concept.
You have been talked that a man should not resign to the utopian collective or collectivity dreams.
Of course. I believe that the man must to resign to the utopian collective or collectivist. But in individual terms, I think that utopian it’s the big motor that we have for the creativity. There was not Proust, a Joyce, Cervantes, Tolstoy, a Dostoievsky without utopian dream behind. That idea of perfection when occurs on the art, on the literature, in the artistic creation in general, produce many time the most beautiful for the mankind. Also produce extraordinary individuals.
When do you have a moment for yourself in the thing that you do?
In reed, think and meditation
Do you have some place in your home or some place else for being alone, for meditation, think and reed a book?
My bedroom, my studio, in the beach and when I go to the sea.
On which step of your life are you right now?
In the best, but not in the definitive.
How do you live today?
I’m convinced that I live better that I imagined. With fortress, without false modesty, with vigor, effort, courage, giving everything, because … Accepting that every day can be better and that, there are many ways ahead.
How do you enjoy the life?
My affections are a few and unique. Share with them, time, space, adversities, travels, joys and adventures in a complicity that I enjoy so much. With your Rocíos? Yes it is and also with my parents and sisters. And what about friendship? Friendship is a present that I appreciate and I always enjoy and I´m grateful to find noble people that the unique thing that move them is to talk and the interchange of personal experiences.
It is hard or easy your life?
Life is not hard or easy, we must to found equilibrium. It is hard to declare a state of permanent happiness, because it is subjective by is worth trying, it will be part of the utopian dream.
You are a successful man, admired and respected. Have you covered your own expectations about yourself?
I always have been searching to do everything I like, what is emotional to me, and make me passion and that have been conducting me from place to place and I have been covered all. In the way I’m planning, but every year there are more and new expectations that I hope to accomplish with health if God wish give me the opportunity of living.
You run up with stones in the way?
I will lie to you if I say yes and also say not. There are some times that the adversities looks like stones on the way, but when you left them behind you see in reality they were necessaries to advance and I am a man that even taught don’t have stones to advance, I look for them, because every taste better when is worth valued your effort and dedication to achieve it. However the life and this carrier ever put some difficulties, because life is and this profession is that way.
Are you happy?
I’m happy because, I have a beautiful family and for being one off the few that run with luck of work in something I like to do an I enjoy it the maximum nowadays because nobody have guarantee for tomorrow.
Which have been you better professionals achievements?
Those yet I don’t do it. I can tell you that some projects, productions and concerts has giving me some satisfactions and important full theatres, nevertheless you can’t say in the past, and now we must think in the year 2004.
What must have a project o professional proposal to initiate it or have your approval?
To initiate any work must have 3 things: first of all that I like me and to believe on it; second that let me some satisfactions and be able to express my emotions and passion that I found funny and third of all a significant challenge wit expectations and make me grow.
There are some areas of music don’t being experimented or developed?
Of course, I’m sure that there are so many and that is the magic that we can find in the way, always there is something new to discover.
Have you felt slave of the time?
Being a professional is demanding and when you want to accomplish your expectations and goals you too sacrifice and in some occasions you would like days with 48 hours long or more.
Behind of your energy and smile that you show on stage, there is loneliness?
Of course, when the theater curtain goes down, there are not public, no applauses, far from home, in a hotel room as a unknown and certainly there are a lot of moments of lonely and melancholy however you know that it’s a work and it has his objective, it give you much but also removes from you.
In a friendship what do you value?
The loyalty
You are a person with a lot of friends and well know persons all over the country and abroad; there are some persons who consider to you as a magnet on public relations do you believe that that it’s true?
Probably has to be too with the personality, I ´m a person that likes to organize and planning, to have the control of the things and that has giving me big friends, friendship and well known people.
And what about enemies?
Not that I know, but always there are persons that envied your achievements. For me some people full of complex and insecure that do not value what God has giving them and they are hunting the achievements from others to bother some one else. The trouble is from them, not mine.
Are you looking recognition for every one of your projects and concerts?
Of course, I’m dedicated to do concerts, of course I like that public recognize my work, but I first tray than they hearing and judge them. I first try to identify my fortress and weakness and in that way to transmit to the public whit honesty who represent me and how I’m thorough my music.
You are an example for many young, and much more than that they follow you and they are motivated to enter the music or play guitar after listening you, which is your opinion?
Well sincerely I’m not consider me nobody’s example, because as any person I’m a human being with defects and virtues, however I feel full pleasure that with my sand’s grain I can motivate young and children to take for the first time the guitar or doing them more disciplined and love their instrument.
For those who don’t have much time in music, how do you recommend to organize the work in the guitar’s study?
The most important is to be patient. You can’t have it all in a few times. If do you want to ride in a marathon you must to dose your efforts. You must beguine from the bottom whatever you play, don’t doing it too fast. If you practice slowly you will get your objective. The speed if you are talented and facility will come alone, then always slowly on the contraire you won’t be precisely on your technique and those vices from wrong study will take you to come back from the beguine and will cost you double reach it. Also you must learn to play very carefully and if you don’t like something that you are playing for a bad position, a deaf cord or a dirty scale you must be honest with yourself and autocritizy because it’s the only way to advance. You can’t make fool somebody, but yourself. Continuing with quality mistakes on the sound that come from your guitar or instrument gives you the same mistake again. Surpass it and go ahead and in coming years do not charge whit a bag of mistakes. In the other hand never accept anything just because it is the way that it is, because of you teacher or whatever. You question it all. If somebody ask you why this or that, why that silence, symbol, technique etc., you will learn to solve troubles for yourself wit big confidence. Don’t forget that ever musician has his voice and soul. If you look in the dictionary the word instrument, you will see that means too. So the guitar should be an extension of your body like an articulation to be impregnate of soul. The most important is the result, which means the sound of the guitar that, came out clear, beauty and precisely no matter the mean you get to achieve it. If you are not sure of some phrase, line or melody; sing the phrase and you will find the solution and finally and not less important is the breath, don’t forget to breath in the proper moment.
In some of your creations, we noticed that you use the improvisation, why you use this source and how do you planned?
The improvisation it’s a way to take breath, I like to do improvisation because it’s a way to have double freedom in the concert, where you can get out what it is in that precisely moment are you filling. I get in contact with the acoustic possibilities of the same concert. I always prepare some ideas to know the way I’m going to take on my improvisations although one you have it the adrenaline run for your body and you get as a result something you never imagined and that is what makes every concert different and magic. That magic makes that always keep enjoying to be on stage; in the other hand improvisation can be an arm of two edges, you must know where are you, it’s important never get loose because basic improvisation is to know to come back at the original theme but never think in a limit, we must let fluid everything we do on stage.. It’s like telling a history, it’s important to create a little of tension and found an equilibrium between the beginning, the climax ant the final. However as all improvisation it’s only for some melodies and some passages, because what makes recognition as a composer is your work and complete melodies were the line of music is ever the same and the people immediately are aware of that and later they ask for them on concerts. The public always like to listen original versions without variation or alterations.
What a person must learn to be a well known guitarist?
We can’t generally speak. The most important it’s learning to focus on your work, and to work very hard. Always enjoy what you are doing and encourage yourself. You must be open to all styles, all sorts, questions, music, and in only that way you can create something new. You must not to think that you are the best, and anything else to learn. If you think that way you are not an artist anymore to be a conformist person. You must know which are your abilities and disabilities. You must know hat before being a musician, you are a human being that needs a balance in his sentimental and emotional life, because you dedicate 24 hours of the day or the 365 days of the year exclusively to guitar you are a sick person that has a piece of wood and only you, and that lonely turn into desequilibrated, remember to your family. Never forget that is the music what’s count on, not your ego.
What is your opinion about drugs?
The best drug is to rest, sleep well, eat well and the other drugs are for stupid people that have not the courage to face the reality of life or more than that stupid like sheeps that go repeating what other stupids do or someone else proposed them to do. I know a big number of musicians or artists finished on Dumps rejected by society and his family. Drugs only harm physical and emotional, and if somebody has that problem right now I’m sorry by telling stupid, but I recommend you to look for help immediately.
Are you considering that the Flamenco has been evolutioned?
Well, first of all I must tell you that never I consider me as a flamenco guitarist. People catalogue me by the flamenco way that I have to play and related to evolutionate many time has been spoken of the evolution of flamenco and in reality are examples manipulating the flamenco. The evolution of flamenco it’s something that quit a few are able to do, artists that work very hard, creative and exceptional like two of them working together in their life Camarón and Paco de Lucía who redefine the flamenco for a new generation.
If you are not considered yourself as a flamenco guitarist, in what way enter what you do, and how important it’s for you?
Well in reality I owe to flamenco the like for the guitar 100%. Also I adopt the technique of flamenco to play the instrument and there are a lot of rhythms or palos, that I love and once in a wail my compositions have something with that metric like Rondeñas, Bulerías, Fandangos, Tangos, etc.
How do you believe is the image of flamenco?
The image of flamenco is like an island rounded by enigmas, unknown and incompressible. If we are aware that the flamenco can live with his time, we will see that it is the art of the paradigm by excellence. Suddenly a depth sings like none of them. And a guitarist with a finger plays his instrument like nobody, talking about the “Duende” artist.
How do you see the flamenco guitar?
Expansionist, the guitar was born as fellow and grows up as an instrument for making the evolution of flamenco. The musicians have been able to change the image of the guitarists hided by their guitars waiting by the “cantaor”, the dance, to be protagonist and to take out the beauty of the soul of this instrument. Of course that we must to have balance and not to be guitar’s athlete, it means a marvelous of technicism but at the time they put the heart they forget. Has been doing much nonsense in music and in the flamenco, but the only way to be certain it’s risky and with mistakes, that are why, make me laugh those who talk about “purism” and those who make themselves to call “purist”.
What is the purism in the flamenco?
It’s the concept of purity or stupidity for those who see it on his reactionary way, persons take to mix the clean, the pure wit the old. The old for me, it’s a way of museum and file. The pure, on the contrary it’s what feel the artist at the moment of being playing.
How do you see the flamenco in Guadalajara or in Mexico?
Do not exist, everything are academies whose tape over recordings, they can not get on a “tablao” if they don’t know his “falcetas” of always, the guitarist plays his “falcetas” or melodies of the maestro “Paco de Lucia” which play wrongly and they believe are genius, they go for a month to Spain and come back believing the know everything. The flamenco is from Spain, you born on it, it is on the blood and if you want to be part of it, you must go to live over there many years and still we don’t know the result. That’s why you must be aware that the Mariachi better played is played in Mexico by Mexicans, the flamenco is from Spain and played by Spanish every thing else make me laugh. Those who think are flamencos or self named flamenco’s guitarist because there are not anyone only exist wrong imitations that cause fun for the flamencos that come from Spain. And in Guadalajara, México no comments for loosing time.
What there is of the term new flamenco?
Other nonsense, talking about the people that gives his opinion under those terms I don’t blame them and I don’t think they don’t do it bad intentioned I think the lack of knowledge make them to do a lot of mistakes. Some record companies create the term new flamenco and from there many musical groups beguine to say that they was playing New Flamenco. Many times people have been considered me that I play Novo Flamenco, but I have been telling them that there is not new or old flamenco. The flamenco it’s the same and always will be the same played by different souls. Those terms are only marketing and if we want to name somebody discarded that term without doubt will be Paco de Lucía, are there who consider get benefits of those nobility titles by the mixings, fusions or hallucinations that produced with other kind of music but that has been doing from decades ago maid by excellent musicians doing master pieces of fusion with the flamenco as Miles Davis and John Coltrane with the Sketches of Spain and Ole. “Solea” it’s another excellent CD, a compilation of fusions were is Gil Evans, Chik Corea, Jorge Pardo, Paco de Lucía, Tomatito, Camarón y Morente.
Which are your goals on the guitar?
To learn, to know and to discover.
Paco: I am just a man full of passion, goals, longings, dreams and whit many worries, that adore my family, love for the life and for God.
What are you looking on that worries, longings, dreams, etc?
I want to be transcendental as a man, and in every way every day to be a better son, brother, father, friend, etc.
As we talk on our conversation, you told me that you hate the indifference of the people and the abuse of Mexican children that sleep on the streets.
Yes it is, the real world in which they live, make them vulnerable and victims of infant pornography, drug addiction, sexual abuse, and discrimination causes of the origin of physical, emotional and mental illness.
I know that I have one hour to ask any question, and already have many that I whish to do, however other are coming an before to continue, I would like to ask you about your God’s love, and as a musician there are those who don’t talk at all, which is your religion?, and why you say so?
I’m a believer, educated on the Catholic faith and the confirmation of that I see it in the art; as it was the God’s clothes, the way on which God go thorough of one incarnation, all the music, all arts take me to the sacred.
In your music God appears. It is complicated to come close that figure?
Yes very clear, but I’m just an intermediary that accept what God give me to create, play and give it to the public; but as a matter of fact it is all what I do, I’m just his translator on this music style, and related to the complexity, I will tell what I go from an experience, God it’s an experience not a concept.
You have been talked that a man should not resign to the utopian collective or collectivity dreams.
Of course. I believe that the man must to resign to the utopian collective or collectivist. But in individual terms, I think that utopian it’s the big motor that we have for the creativity. There was not Proust, a Joyce, Cervantes, Tolstoy, a Dostoievsky without utopian dream behind. That idea of perfection when occurs on the art, on the literature, in the artistic creation in general, produce many time the most beautiful for the mankind. Also produce extraordinary individuals.
When do you have a moment for yourself in the thing that you do?

Do you have some place in your home or some place else for being alone, for meditation, think and reed a book?
My bedroom, my studio, in the beach and when I go to the sea.
On which step of your life are you right now?

How do you live today?
I’m convinced that I live better that I imagined. With fortress, without false modesty, with vigor, effort, courage, giving everything, because … Accepting that every day can be better and that, there are many ways ahead.
How do you enjoy the life?
My affections are a few and unique. Share with them, time, space, adversities, travels, joys and adventures in a complicity that I enjoy so much. With your Rocíos? Yes it is and also with my parents and sisters. And what about friendship? Friendship is a present that I appreciate and I always enjoy and I´m grateful to find noble people that the unique thing that move them is to talk and the interchange of personal experiences.
It is hard or easy your life?
Life is not hard or easy, we must to found equilibrium. It is hard to declare a state of permanent happiness, because it is subjective by is worth trying, it will be part of the utopian dream.
You are a successful man, admired and respected. Have you covered your own expectations about yourself?
I always have been searching to do everything I like, what is emotional to me, and make me passion and that have been conducting me from place to place and I have been covered all. In the way I’m planning, but every year there are more and new expectations that I hope to accomplish with health if God wish give me the opportunity of living.
You run up with stones in the way?
I will lie to you if I say yes and also say not. There are some times that the adversities looks like stones on the way, but when you left them behind you see in reality they were necessaries to advance and I am a man that even taught don’t have stones to advance, I look for them, because every taste better when is worth valued your effort and dedication to achieve it. However the life and this carrier ever put some difficulties, because life is and this profession is that way.
Are you happy?
I’m happy because, I have a beautiful family and for being one off the few that run with luck of work in something I like to do an I enjoy it the maximum nowadays because nobody have guarantee for tomorrow.
Which have been you better professionals achievements?
Those yet I don’t do it. I can tell you that some projects, productions and concerts has giving me some satisfactions and important full theatres, nevertheless you can’t say in the past, and now we must think in the year 2004.
What must have a project o professional proposal to initiate it or have your approval?
To initiate any work must have 3 things: first of all that I like me and to believe on it; second that let me some satisfactions and be able to express my emotions and passion that I found funny and third of all a significant challenge wit expectations and make me grow.
There are some areas of music don’t being experimented or developed?
Of course, I’m sure that there are so many and that is the magic that we can find in the way, always there is something new to discover.
Have you felt slave of the time?
Being a professional is demanding and when you want to accomplish your expectations and goals you too sacrifice and in some occasions you would like days with 48 hours long or more.
Behind of your energy and smile that you show on stage, there is loneliness?
Of course, when the theater curtain goes down, there are not public, no applauses, far from home, in a hotel room as a unknown and certainly there are a lot of moments of lonely and melancholy however you know that it’s a work and it has his objective, it give you much but also removes from you.
In a friendship what do you value?

You are a person with a lot of friends and well know persons all over the country and abroad; there are some persons who consider to you as a magnet on public relations do you believe that that it’s true?
Probably has to be too with the personality, I ´m a person that likes to organize and planning, to have the control of the things and that has giving me big friends, friendship and well known people.
And what about enemies?
Not that I know, but always there are persons that envied your achievements. For me some people full of complex and insecure that do not value what God has giving them and they are hunting the achievements from others to bother some one else. The trouble is from them, not mine.
Are you looking recognition for every one of your projects and concerts?
Of course, I’m dedicated to do concerts, of course I like that public recognize my work, but I first tray than they hearing and judge them. I first try to identify my fortress and weakness and in that way to transmit to the public whit honesty who represent me and how I’m thorough my music.
You are an example for many young, and much more than that they follow you and they are motivated to enter the music or play guitar after listening you, which is your opinion?
Well sincerely I’m not consider me nobody’s example, because as any person I’m a human being with defects and virtues, however I feel full pleasure that with my sand’s grain I can motivate young and children to take for the first time the guitar or doing them more disciplined and love their instrument.
For those who don’t have much time in music, how do you recommend to organize the work in the guitar’s study?
The most important is to be patient. You can’t have it all in a few times. If do you want to ride in a marathon you must to dose your efforts. You must beguine from the bottom whatever you play, don’t doing it too fast. If you practice slowly you will get your objective. The speed if you are talented and facility will come alone, then always slowly on the contraire you won’t be precisely on your technique and those vices from wrong study will take you to come back from the beguine and will cost you double reach it. Also you must learn to play very carefully and if you don’t like something that you are playing for a bad position, a deaf cord or a dirty scale you must be honest with yourself and autocritizy because it’s the only way to advance. You can’t make fool somebody, but yourself. Continuing with quality mistakes on the sound that come from your guitar or instrument gives you the same mistake again. Surpass it and go ahead and in coming years do not charge whit a bag of mistakes. In the other hand never accept anything just because it is the way that it is, because of you teacher or whatever. You question it all. If somebody ask you why this or that, why that silence, symbol, technique etc., you will learn to solve troubles for yourself wit big confidence. Don’t forget that ever musician has his voice and soul. If you look in the dictionary the word instrument, you will see that means too. So the guitar should be an extension of your body like an articulation to be impregnate of soul. The most important is the result, which means the sound of the guitar that, came out clear, beauty and precisely no matter the mean you get to achieve it. If you are not sure of some phrase, line or melody; sing the phrase and you will find the solution and finally and not less important is the breath, don’t forget to breath in the proper moment.
In some of your creations, we noticed that you use the improvisation, why you use this source and how do you planned?
The improvisation it’s a way to take breath, I like to do improvisation because it’s a way to have double freedom in the concert, where you can get out what it is in that precisely moment are you filling. I get in contact with the acoustic possibilities of the same concert. I always prepare some ideas to know the way I’m going to take on my improvisations although one you have it the adrenaline run for your body and you get as a result something you never imagined and that is what makes every concert different and magic. That magic makes that always keep enjoying to be on stage; in the other hand improvisation can be an arm of two edges, you must know where are you, it’s important never get loose because basic improvisation is to know to come back at the original theme but never think in a limit, we must let fluid everything we do on stage.. It’s like telling a history, it’s important to create a little of tension and found an equilibrium between the beginning, the climax ant the final. However as all improvisation it’s only for some melodies and some passages, because what makes recognition as a composer is your work and complete melodies were the line of music is ever the same and the people immediately are aware of that and later they ask for them on concerts. The public always like to listen original versions without variation or alterations.
What a person must learn to be a well known guitarist?
We can’t generally speak. The most important it’s learning to focus on your work, and to work very hard. Always enjoy what you are doing and encourage yourself. You must be open to all styles, all sorts, questions, music, and in only that way you can create something new. You must not to think that you are the best, and anything else to learn. If you think that way you are not an artist anymore to be a conformist person. You must know which are your abilities and disabilities. You must know hat before being a musician, you are a human being that needs a balance in his sentimental and emotional life, because you dedicate 24 hours of the day or the 365 days of the year exclusively to guitar you are a sick person that has a piece of wood and only you, and that lonely turn into desequilibrated, remember to your family. Never forget that is the music what’s count on, not your ego.

Pretendo que el espectador experimente un impacto fundamentalmente emotivo ante las obras, respondiendo al uso desmedido de colores ,fuerza , carácter , adrenalina , pasión ,alegría en el escenario y al interpretar. Siempre he creído en que hay que justificar estar arriba de un escenario y me filosofía es proyectar al máximo, y para eso hay que estar seguro de lo que se toca para desprenderse de nerviosismos y dejar que el interior fluya en toda su dimensión, así me lleva a los lugares mas increíbles cuando toco, ya que mi corazón siente, mis manos tocan y mi mente coordina. No me interesa nada más que sentirme comodo para expresar

Freeplay es dejarte llevar por los sonidos del mundo, por los ritmos de la sangre, de la vida, de lo desconocido, donde el único límite sea la imaginación, donde exista una combinación, mezcla o fusión aún imposible de llevar a cabo al margen de limitaciones geográficas políticas, sociales & religiosas , ahí donde me sienta atraído , ahí estaré explorando y descubriendo mas expansiones en mi música. Freeplay tiene también mucho de improvisación ya que en la vida no hay un manual para saber lo que tenemos que enfrentar, nos vamos haciendo al pasar de los días, con la improvisación de nuestros hechos y de nuestros sentimientos.
